How can I use the symbol?

Coeliac UK have registered the Crossed Grain symbol as a trademark across Europe and also own the worldwide copyright. The symbol can only be used under licence by companies and organisations on food and drink products which meet our criteria, and in certain publications after approval.

Is there a certain criteria for licensing the symbol?

To use the Crossed Grain symbol your products must meet a range of criteria to ensure that they are gluten-free, both in terms of the ingredients and the production process. We will need to see evidence of gluten-free quality in the form of test results from a recognised laboratory. Full details are available in our Licensing Information Pack (see related downloads on the right).

Once a contract is agreed, the symbol can be used on packaging, websites, exhibitions and promotional material associated with the approved gluten-free products. In addition all licensees will be promoted through our Food and Drink DirectoryOur annual Directory of gluten-free food and drink which manufacturers voluntarily submit to. and on our website.

Is there a fee for licensing the symbol?

We charge an annual licence fee and this varies according to the turnover of the gluten-free products listed in the licence. Additional products can be added to the licence at any stage throughout the year which does not incur any additional charges.
