Research Volunteer

Coeliac UK is often contacted by students and research bodies looking for volunteers to share information on their experiences of coeliac diseaseA condition where a person is unable to eat gluten as it makes their body attack itself. and / or dermatitis herpetiformisUsually shortened to DH, this is a form of coeliac disease where the skin is affected with small blisters. (DH). Help them by volunteering today.

Research volunteers can get involved in a huge range of projects looking at diet, diagnosis, general lifestyle – the list is endless. We are also contacted by manufacturers looking for feedback on new products.

Usually volunteers receive a questionnaire or a sample of the product and are able to participate in their own time at home. Sometimes however volunteers are required to go to a central location.

Main purpose of role

  • To assist researchers by providing feedback on a particular topic / product
  • Be available to research projects relevant to you
  • Complete any questionnaire / feedback form by the stated deadline
  • Liaise directly with research body

Skills and ability required

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible around researching opportunities
  • Desire to help further understanding of coeliac diseaseA condition where a person is unable to eat gluten as it makes their body attack itself. and / or DH
  • No previous volunteering experience required
  • Diagnosis of coeliac disease or DH is usually required but not always necessary

Training

There is no specific training programme for this role. However, full details on how to do the role will be given and more information will be made available on request.

Management and Support

The Coeliac UK Volunteer Manager is available throughout the week to provide support to all volunteers.
