NICE guideline on coeliac disease

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) is going to develop a clinical guideline on the recognition and diagnosis of adults with coeliac disease.

This is the result of two years of hard work and repeated submissions from Coeliac UK, and is a key target realised for the Charity: it will undoubtedly result in earlier diagnosis for many people with the condition in the future.  It will also enable us to measure performance against nationally accepted guidelines.  While the specific details are still to be worked out, this is a major breakthrough in our campaign to improve diagnosis rates.

This clinical guideline is following the NICE short clinical guideline process (SCG).  Short clinical guidelines are developed to the same rigorous methods as existing clinical guidelines but they are produced within a shorter 9 -11 month timescale.
