Food and Drink Directory

The 2010 Coeliac UK Food and Drink Directory is your essential guide to choosing suitable foods. It lists approximately 10,000 suitable products for you to eat and provides information to help you read labels.

There are now two separate laws that apply to products suitable for people with coeliac diseaseA condition where a person is unable to eat gluten as it makes their body attack itself. . We changed the layout of the 2010 Food and Drink DirectoryOur annual Directory of gluten-free food and drink which manufacturers voluntarily submit to. to reflect these laws. The Directory is now split into two sections (see Page 3):

Section 1 – Foods listed in this section meet the new gluten–free labelling law (see pages 4-5). They include foods on prescription, supermarket own-brand ‘free from’ foods and other specialist foods

Section 2 – Foods listed in this section meet the 2005 allergenSomething which causes an allergic reaction. labelling legislation (see pages 4-5). They include ‘everyday’ or mainstream foods such as baked beans and ready meals and supermarket own-brand foods

You can eat foods in both sections.

  • new, simple to use ingredient checklists and information on the new legislation about labelling products ‘gluten-free’ (Pages 4-8)
  • ways to update your Directory every month (Page 9)

You may find that some of your favourite products are not listed in this year’s Directory. Some manufacturers do not provide the information we require or no longer comply with the criteria for inclusion in the Directory.

Membership to Coeliac UK is available for those diagnosed be a doctor with coeliac disease or dermatitis herpetiformisUsually shortened to DH, this is a form of coeliac disease where the skin is affected with small blisters.. Alternatively if you are not diagnosed with coeliac disease but wish to receive information on following a gluten-free diet, you can subscribe to our services.

Updating your Directory

It is very important that you keep your Food and Drink Directory up to date. Products sometimes change and new products appear on the market. We provide monthly updates to keep your Food and Drink Directory as up to date as possible.

There are many ways to update your Food and Drink Directory:

  • on the link via the homepage of our website
  • by following the links on the electronic newsletter, eXGOur online email newsletter which is sent to our Members each month.
  • on Ceefax, BBC2, Page 657, for one week commencing the first Monday of each month
  • on the digital text service on BBC, by going to the Index and then Community Pages, for one week commencing the first Monday of each month
