September 2016 media round up

Since the last media round up we have yet again received some excellent coverage. Earlier in September we announced details of a Point of Care research trial with pharmacists which was published in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy. Coverage includes:

Big news this month was the broadcast of BBC 2’s Trust Me I’m a Doctor which covered an experiment into the effects of the gluten-free diet on people who don’t have coeliac disease. The results were inconclusive but did give a clear description of coeliac disease and highlighted people should go to their GP for testing first before changing their diet. The BBC online magazine also ran an article which at one point was the sixth most read article on the BBC website. The show’s website also outlined the findings with links to our website and also to our online assessment.

You may have also heard about a café owner from Dublin whose rather unique marketing angle was to ridicule those people requesting a gluten-free meal who don’t have a diagnosis of coeliac disease. His Facebook post went viral and was picked up by numerous publications including: Daily Mail, Huffington Post, Daily TelegraphFox News, Irish Post and CNBC. Myles Fitt, our Scotland Lead was also dragged into the debate on BBC Radio Scotland.

We issued a press release highlighting our concerns regarding the proposed cuts to gluten-free food on prescription following the launch of a consultation by North Staffordshire CCG and Stoke on Trent CCG. Sarah Sleet, Chief Executive was interviewed by two radio stations and there was also an article in the local paper:
