Meeting our community at the BBC Good Food Show
Last week a team from Coeliac UK manned a stand at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This is one of the largest foodie events held in the country and a great opportunity for us to speak to lots of people about the charity’s work and offer advice and information on the gluten free diet.
Our stand was perfectly situated close to the Healthy Eating stage where cooking demonstrations were held throughout the four day event. It was expected that around 90,000 people would attend the event and although we didn’t speak them all, the team did speak to hundreds of interested visitors.
There was a great diversity of people who visited the stand. From a newly diagnosed student with questions about cooking for herself for the first time to concerned grandparents wanting to know what food to give their grandchildren, we were pleased to see how our community could help so many different people.
We also spoke to lots of passionate foodies who had friends with coeliac disease coming for dinner parties and barbecues wanting fresh ideas of what to offer them, as well as tips on preventing cross contamination.
Over the four days we signed up 17 new members as well as three renewals for lapsed members and we are hoping that many that took away our membership pack will also sign up to become members and enjoy the many benefits of being part of our community. It was a fantastic chance to meet so many people who needed our help and information and we were more than happy to help.
