Date and Chocolate Torte

Ingredients

  • 250g (9oz) almonds or pecans
  • 250g (9oz) dark chocolate*
  • 250g (9oz) dates
  • 6 egg whites
  • 100g (3½oz) caster sugar

Method


  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4

  2. Place almonds or pecans and chocolate in blender or food processor and chop into chunky pieces

  3. Cut dates finely

  4. Beat egg whites until they hold stiff peaks, gradually adding caster sugar

  5. Fold in chocolate mixture and dates

  6. Line a 23cm tin with foil, grease well

  7. Pour into prepared tin and bake in prepared oven for 45 minutes

  8. Open oven door slightly and allow torte to cool in tin in the oven

  9. Turn onto a platter and refrigerate overnight.
