“It means so much when someone goes to the effort of keeping you safe.” Wendy Temple, 66
When she was younger, Wendy often felt left out because of her gluten free diet.
She talks about how things have improved over the years.
“When I was younger, I hated going out to any occasion where food was the focus. Coeliac disease was not widely understood at the time so it was much more difficult, and most of the older generation just didn’t ‘get it’. My worst experience was going to a buffet where I could only eat the pickled onions!
“People are generally more understanding and supportive now. One of my friends is sensitive to gluten (but not coeliac) so she does a completely gluten free buffet which is wonderful. It means so much when someone goes to the effort of keeping you safe. Especially at Christmas."
