Popcorn

As seen in our Live Well Gluten Free Magazine! Popcorn is a great natural source of fibre, so why not make your own for a snack and great to make with kids? We have three great flavour suggestions for you, and you can also experiment with your own flavours. The method is the same whatever the flavour you choose; the butter helps the flavour and helps the seasoning to coat.

Ingredients

Sweet Popcorn with Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 50g popcorn maize
  • 20g butter
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
Chocolate and Desiccated Coconut Popcorn
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 50g popcorn maize
  • 20g butter
  • 10g cocoa powder
  • 10g desiccated coconut
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
Curried Popcorn
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 50g popcorn maize
  • 20g butter
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¼ tsp chilli flakes

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan. When it is hot, add the popcorn maize and cover with a tight fitting lid. Leave until the popping noise stops (approximately 4 minutes) then remove from the heat and tip the popped corn into a bowl.
  2. Add the butter to the saucepan so it melts, then add the flavouring. Tip the popcorn back in and stir so it gets an even coating.
  3. Place the popped corn in a bowl and serve.
