The UK’s national charity for people who need to live without gluten.

About us

For over 50 years, we have been the experts on coeliac disease and the gluten free diet. We are an independent charity helping people to live well, gluten free. We do this by providing our 65,000 plus members with trustworthy advice and support, funding critical research into coeliac disease, working with healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis and fighting for better availability of gluten free food. And we do it all so that one day, no one’s life will be limited by gluten. We have offices in England, Scotland and Wales. We are not Government funded and rely on our Members and the generosity of our fundraisers and supporters to continue our work. We want to see the needs of people with coeliac disease and DH recognised by everyone and met in their everyday lives. We do this by: - providing expert and independent information to help people manage their health and diet - campaigning on their behalf to improve access to fast diagnosis, good medical treatment and safe foods - in the home and out - researching new treatments and the possibilities of a cure. Coeliac UK staff work in diverse roles ranging from dietetic advice, campaigning to database management. To find out more about opportunities at the Charity please contact: generalenquiries@coeliac.org.uk As the gluten free diet is the only medical treatment for people with coeliac disease, we are always keen to talk to companies who are interested in producing and selling gluten free food. If you would like to discuss ways in which we could work together or if you want to find out more, please contact our Commercial Team at marketing@coeliac.org.uk who will be pleased to help.

Exciting news! Another episode of our podcast 100 Things I Wish I'd Known About Being Gluten Free is now live! Following the success of the pilot in December, the second episode sees Coeliac UK ambassador Becky Excell and radio presenter Aimee Vivian sit down to chat about a really important topic - how to help someone with coeliac disease and specifically how to navigate the emotional side of living gluten free.  Living with coeliac disease can significantly impact someone’s mental health, leading to a wide range of emotions - from feeling embarrassed and anxious at social gatherings to feeling frustrated by comments or questions you receive from others who don't understand the condition.  Becky and Aimee share some situations they have been in previously in the hope that you can learn how to navigate similar situations in the future, whether you have coeliac disease yourself or know someone who does.  Visit https://lnkd.in/grJNT2T5 to listen to the new episode or listen to it through Apple, Spotify, or wherever you usually access your podcasts. Let us know in the comments below what you think, we’d love to hear your feedback! #CoeliacAwarenessMonth #CoeliacStories #CoeliacUK #CoeliacDisease

If you’re consistently experiencing symptoms such as severe or occasional diarrhoea, excessive wind and/or constipation, persistent nausea and vomiting, recurrent stomach pain, or any combination of iron, vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, you may have coeliac disease. Take our online self-assessment to see if you should be tested. The assessment follows NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines for diagnosis and will help you determine if you need to visit your GP for a simple blood test. If the assessment indicates you should be tested, you'll receive a letter to take to your GP. Learn more about the symptoms and take our self-assessment here: https://lnkd.in/euFAV3UH #CoeliacAwarenessMonth

Meet Joe, whose journey to a diagnosis was influenced by his family's experience with coeliac disease. Following his brother Joshua's diagnosis at a young age, Joe underwent testing and received his diagnosis early on. Reflecting on his own experience, Joe is grateful for the early diagnosis, which has allowed him to pursue his passions without hindrance. At the age of 7, Joe experienced the effects of accidentally consuming gluten, leaving him lethargic and unwell. Since then, he has been diligent about adhering to a gluten free diet, ensuring nothing holds him back from achieving his goals.  With a love for playing the bagpipes and aspirations to study at university, Joe is determined to live life to the fullest. If you're experiencing symptoms or suspect you may have coeliac disease, don't hesitate to seek help. Visit www.coeliac.org.uk for more information and https://lnkd.in/euFAV3UH to take the online self-assessment. Don't let undiagnosed coeliac disease stand in the way of your potential! #CoeliacStories #CoeliacAwarenessMonth #CoeliacDisease #Coeliac

The Importance of cross contamination For someone with coeliac disease ongoing consumption of gluten will prevent the gut from healing and over time can lead to serious complications such as osteoporosis, anaemia, infertility and in rare cases small bowel lymphoma.  Particular care needs to be taken when gluten containing food is present, as even trace amounts of gluten from cross contamination can cause symptoms. However regardless of the severity of symptoms  even if you don’t experience any, managing coeliac disease requires a strict gluten free diet to avoid continued damage to the gut.    That’s why preventing cross contamination is crucial. Our tips above provide guidance on keeping your gluten free food safe.    Learn more about cross contamination: https://lnkd.in/d8tUE7M #CoeliacAwarenessMonth #CoeliacDisease #CoeliacUK #Coeliac #GlutenFreeDiet #GlutenFree
