The UK’s national charity for people who need to live without gluten.

About us

For over 50 years, we have been the experts on coeliac disease and the gluten free diet. We are an independent charity helping people to live well, gluten free. We do this by providing our 65,000 plus members with trustworthy advice and support, funding critical research into coeliac disease, working with healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis and fighting for better availability of gluten free food. And we do it all so that one day, no one’s life will be limited by gluten. We have offices in England, Scotland and Wales. We are not Government funded and rely on our Members and the generosity of our fundraisers and supporters to continue our work. We want to see the needs of people with coeliac disease and DH recognised by everyone and met in their everyday lives. We do this by: - providing expert and independent information to help people manage their health and diet - campaigning on their behalf to improve access to fast diagnosis, good medical treatment and safe foods - in the home and out - researching new treatments and the possibilities of a cure. Coeliac UK staff work in diverse roles ranging from dietetic advice, campaigning to database management. To find out more about opportunities at the Charity please contact: generalenquiries@coeliac.org.uk As the gluten free diet is the only medical treatment for people with coeliac disease, we are always keen to talk to companies who are interested in producing and selling gluten free food. If you would like to discuss ways in which we could work together or if you want to find out more, please contact our Commercial Team at marketing@coeliac.org.uk who will be pleased to help.

As we reflect on Coeliac Awareness Month, we’re thankful for incredible support from our community! Thank you to everyone who shared their stories, raised their voices, and helped to raise awareness. You’ve made a difference! Here’s a roundup of our impactful campaign: #CoeliacStories: Throughout May, we shed light on the various stories of undiagnosed coeliac disease featuring 6 brave individuals who came forward to share their story to help others. We also shared lesser known facts about associated conditions like Down’s syndrome and autoimmune thyroid disease. 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐜𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞.𝐨𝐫𝐠.𝐮𝐤: Our goal was simple - to encourage as many people as possible to take our free online self-assessment, or share with people that might be seeking answers for their symptoms. Getting on the road to recovery faster starts with awareness! At least 13k have taken the test so far, and it's available all year, so you can take it at any time 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: We took our campaign straight to the heart of legislative power. Events in the Welsh Parliament (Senedd) and the Northern Ireland Assembly, along with engagement across all four UK parliaments, amplified our message. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐲: Whether you organised an awareness event, checked for local volunteer led activities, attended our Facebook cook-along with Becky Excell , or simply bought BFree Foods stone-baked pitta breads (20p per pack sold in May supports Coeliac UK), you’ve amplified our message and helped reach more people. How will you continue to make a difference? Remember, every action counts! If you think you might have coeliac disease, visit isitcoeliacdisease to take our self-assessment and check if you should be tested. #CoeliacAwarenessMonth #CoeliacStories

Meet Trudy: Mentor for the Coeliac UK Member2Member service As part of Volunteers' Week (3-9 June), we’re highlighting the incredible impact Coeliac UK volunteers have in our community. Today, we celebrate Trudy, one of our dedicated mentors for the Member2Member service. "𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘊𝘰𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘤 𝘜𝘒 𝘢𝘴 𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰. Coeliac UK's Member2Member peer support service taps into the knowledge of members who have experience of living gluten free. Many of us can remember what it felt like to get diagnosed at the beginning of that gluten free life and how difficult it seemed. And if you're feeling like this, you're not alone. Our Member2Member scheme is here to help you. If you are a member of Coeliac UK and would like to speak to somebody else with the condition, or if you are supporting your child through their diagnosis and adjustment to a gluten free diet, Member2Member would be perfect for you. From the comfort of your own home, you can connect with our established and experienced members who offer a listening ear, kind word, and support for as little or as long as you need it. To apply please complete our online form or email member2member@coeliac.org.uk. if you're interested in volunteering with us take a look at the roles we are currently recruiting too: https://lnkd.in/ehbP-Jy2 #VolunteersWeek #Volunteers #Charity #CoeliacUK

Join our Member Review Panel (MRP) and help review applications for research funding! At Coeliac UK, it's really important to us that our members have their say on the research we fund. Whenever we receive applications for funding, we invite our members to share their views on these. We're incredibly grateful to those who volunteer, as it ensures we're funding research that is relevant to our community. "I'm delighted to be a volunteer on the Member Review Panel. It enables me to use some of my skills to give something back to Coeliac UK for all the ways they have helped me since I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. It's really interesting to hear of all the great research that is taking place around coeliac disease and I really hope that in some small way my views can help improve the lives of people with the disease." - Dr Jonathan Smith Thank you to everyone who has participated in our MRP in the past including Jonathan! Last year, we were fortunate to have 166 volunteers give up their time to provide feedback on the applications we received for funding to our 2023 research calls. Celebrate Volunteers Week by joining us and making a difference. Any member of Coeliac UK is welcome to join. You can read more about the role here: https://bit.ly/4aSVgnp Sign up for the 2024 panel here: https://bit.ly/3x1T9jh Thank you for your support! #VolunteersWeek #CoeliacUK #GlutenFree #Research

Meet Chris Dilloway: Chair of the Board at Coeliac UK "My daughter has coeliac disease and was only 18 months old when she was diagnosed. As a family, we really appreciated the support from Coeliac UK, and we used a lot of the resources available to members to help us adjust to the lifelong diet my daughter needs to follow. We give to the charity, but I wanted to do more to help, so two years ago I applied to volunteer as a trustee. At work, I am a partner in a strategic advisory business, and so I hoped that my professional experience and skills might be valuable to the charity. Having been a trustee for nearly two years now, I can honestly say that it’s some of the most fulfilling and enjoyable work I do. I’m hugely proud of the work that the team at Coeliac UK and all of our wonderful volunteers do."
