Coeliac Disease Awareness
Coeliac disease is a debilitating illness. Living with it is hard; it impacts the rest of your life. It is a serious autoimmune condition that affects 1 in 100 people in the UK. Only 36% are medically diagnosed, meaning there are an estimated 500,000 people living in the UK who are experiencing symptoms – and these symptoms are having a big impact on their lives.
Coeliac UK have been the experts in coeliac disease for over 50 years, and we know that people who experience inequality are less likely to be diagnosed. Even if you are diagnosed, a gluten free diet can be expensive – and knowing what’s safe to eat can be stressful.
We challenge the effect of inequalities and lack of knowledge, so that everyone can be quickly diagnosed and treated, regardless of who you are or where you live.
Through a wide variety of activations we work hard to raise awareness of the symptoms of coeliac disease, provide advice on how to get diagnosed, and make sure the wider community understand the importance of the gluten free diet for those affected.
Ultimately, we don’t want anyone to suffer from this condition, by raising awareness we can help complete our mission that no life should be limited by coeliac disease.
We’re aiming for a world without coeliac disease and we’re working hard to initiate research that can lead to a cure.
