Gluten Free staple foods available on prescription
In Hywel Dda University Health Board, if you have a diagnosis of coeliac disease, you can either access gluten free foods on prescription from your GP or a pre-paid top up card for use in shops. For prescriptions, your area is following the national prescribing guidelines.
The subsidy card is pre-loaded with credit equivalent to the difference in the costs of gluten free food compared to similar gluten containing food. The card can only be used to purchase gluten free food, this can be done at any outlet that sells gluten free food with a card reader system e.g., supermarkets, local shops, community pharmacies, or online. This offers flexibility for the user, whilst saving GP time. For more information, please see the scheme website.
