Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition affecting around 1 in 100 people in the UK. It is estimated that around 64% of those people remain undiagnosed. This means over half a million people may be living with symptoms that affect their daily lives, without knowing the cause — and it could be coeliac disease.
Coeliac UK works hard to raise awareness of the symptoms of coeliac disease, provide advice on how to get diagnosed, and make sure the wider community understand the importance of the gluten free diet for those affected. In May, we mark International Coeliac Awareness Day, a key moment for our community to come together to raise awareness.
If you’d like to support, there are many ways to get involved, including sharing our online self-assessment tool, taking part in events, or helping to spread the word. Our aim is to help more people recognise the symptoms and feel confident taking the first step towards a diagnosis.
If you’re experiencing ongoing symptoms, you’re not alone. Your symptoms matter, and with the right support, getting a diagnosis is possible.
Together, we can help ensure that no life is limited by coeliac disease.
