Website and privacy policy

The success of our work is dependent on your goodwill and trust. It is important to us that we do everything we can to make sure that the information we provide on this site is up to date and accurate, and that any data or information we receive from you is handled according to the law.
This page lists our website policies covering the content, review processes, privacy and terms of use. The site was launched in October 2013 to give accessible information to people of all ages affected by coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, including professionals working in the field.
The information on this site is not intended to be an alternative to seeking professional help and advice. The information contained herein is for educational use only. If you believe you may be affected by coeliac disease, you should consult your GP.

Advertising

The Coeliac UK website accepts advertising which may be of interest to people with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). Coeliac UK cannot be held responsible for any claims made by advertisers. To advertise, contact us.

Blog

  • Comments posted on this blog, by persons other than the post authors, are those of the individual and in no way represent the views of Coeliac UK. We reserve the right to delete any message for any reason whatsoever in our sole discretion.
  • By using this blog and the comments function, you are consenting to our terms and conditions.
  • The Coeliac UK blog aims to give greater insight into the workings of the Charity. The comments functionality is a moderated service through which Members can engage with our work.

  • Any commercial advertising or promotional comments will be deleted.

  • Breaching of the terms of use will result in the removal of comment privileges.

Catering training: Use of our online module ‘Accessing the Gluten-free Pound: Preparing food for people with coeliac disease’

Every effort is made to ensure that the information provided within our online training module is accurate and up to date, but no legal responsibility is accepted for any errors, omissions or misleading statements. Coeliac UK is not responsible for the subsequent implementation of such training into practice and shall not be liable for any damages incurred as a result of its use.

The Intellectual Property contained within the online training module remains the property of Coeliac UK at all times and in all circumstances, except where the transfer of rights have been expressly agreed in writing with the Chief Executive of Coeliac UK. All rights in Copyright are reserved to Coeliac UK. Content on our website includes evidence based information about coeliac disease, living with the condition, progress in research, specialist information for care professionals, Coeliac UK’s services, campaigns, news and events. Content goes through a quality checking process before it is published.

Cookies Policy

A cookie is a small piece of information sent from our website to your computer and stored on your hard drive. A cookie can contain information, such as a unique user identifier, that the site uses to track your visit. They help us identify the number of unique visitors to our website, whether or not those visitors are repeat visitors, and the source of the visits. Copyright and Trade Marks

Coeliac UK has trademarked a number of quality marks associated with providing safe gluten-free food.

The Crossed Grain Symbol Trade Mark (registration number 2271202 and Community Trade Mark E2253748) is the property of Coeliac UK and may not be used without prior agreement. Similarly the GF and NGCI symbols associated with our catering accreditation are registered Trade Marks (registration numbers 2607715 and 2607714 respectively) and may not be used without prior agreement.

Documents may be copied for personal use only on the condition that copyright and source indications are also copied, no modifications are made and the document is copied entirely. However, some documents and photos have been published on this site with the permission of the relevant copyright owners. All rights are reserved on these documents and permission to copy them must be requested from the copyright owners.

Data protection and privacy

What information will you collect on me?

When you contact Coeliac UK to become a Member, make a donation, purchase online, support our campaigns or sign up to any of our activities or online content, such as newsletters and social media, or you telephone, email, or write to Coeliac UK we may receive and retain personal information about you. This might be your name, email address, postal address, telephone or mobile number, bank account details to process Membership or donations and whether or not you are a tax payer so that we can claim Gift Aid.

By submitting your details, you enable Coeliac UK (and where applicable any sub-contractors we may use) to raise funds and to provide you with the goods, services, information, activities or online content you select.

We do not usually collect ‘sensitive personal data’ unless there is a clear reason for doing so such as in Membership applications or anonymous surveys in support of our campaigning work.

Any communication or material that you transmit to, or post on, any public area of the site including data, questions, comments, suggestions or the like will be treated as nonconfidential and non proprietary information.

If you are browsing our website as an anonymous visitor, we may still collect certain information from you, such as your IP address (this can identify a specific computer or other network device on the internet).

We also use cookies. See the section on cookies for what these are and how we use them.

Sharing my information

The personal information you have provided will help us to deliver, develop and promote our products and services. Submitting your details indicates that you have read and agree to our privacy, legal and cookie policies.

We will only use your information within Coeliac UK for the purposes for which it was obtained, unless you have explicitly agreed that we may share your information with another organisation. Sometimes we contract third parties to process your information on our behalf. We require these third parties to comply strictly with our instructions and data protection laws.

We will keep your information confidential except where disclosure is required or permitted by law (for example to government bodies for tax purposes or the police in the detection of crime subject to a request in writing).

How long will Coeliac UK keep my personal information?

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity eg we will keep a record of donations for at least seven years for accounting reasons. If you request us not to send you marketing information we will keep a record of your contact details and appropriate information to enable us to comply with your request not to be contacted by us.

Can I update, correct or delete my personal information?

Members of Coeliac UK can access essential personal information on their record through the scrapbook area of our website and update their details there. If you are unable to use this option for whatever reason you can change your details by contacting our Membership Helpline Team on generalenquiries@coeliac.org.uk or 0845 305 2060.

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge £10 for information and may require you to prove your identity with two pieces of approved identification).

Dispute/Queries/Complaints

In the case of queries or complaints, please inform us by email to website@coeliac.org.uk. Any complaints can also be directed to the following address:

Food and Drink Directory

Coeliac UK makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information in the Food and Drink Directory. However, we rely on information provided by manufacturers and retailers. Products and their ingredients can change without notice. Coeliac UK cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies in the Food and Drink Directory or any changes made to it. If you are in any doubt, please check the label or contact the manufacturer directly. If you are still in doubt, avoid the product.

The Food and Drink Directory published by Coeliac UK is only for use in the United Kingdom. Every precaution is taken to ensure that it is correct as far as companies and products in the UK are concerned. Coeliac UK cannot guarantee that products listed in the Food and Drink Directory will be suitable if purchased overseas. Many large multinational food companies have products that look and even taste the same the world over, but they may well contain ingredients according to local availability.

Coeliac UK cannot guarantee that no changes have been made and shall not be liable whatsoever for any damages incurred as a result of its use.

This app is provided on the understanding that the expertise of Coeliac UK is in respect of its understanding gluten and not its understanding of IT. Coeliac UK will have used its best endeavours, in partnership with an IT provider, Food Maestro, to try and communicate to users information that is useful and accurate, but is not liable for any non-functionality of the app.

Use of this app and the information is entirely at the user's sole risk. Our smartphone app contains mobile friendly information derived from our website, Food and Drink Directory and Venue Guide. The content is therefore subject to the same policies as set out in the following sections contained in this document:

Coeliac UK aims to include links to websites that provide relevant and useful information for people living with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). We do not link to general health sites or unproven therapy sites and will not knowingly provide links to sites that contain illegal, offensive or misleading information. We will work to reflect our community and link to relevant blogs but this is by no means endorsement and Coeliac UK takes no responsibility for the content of these sites.

Where an organisation has regional or local services and associated websites, we will only link to their national website. We aim to link to UK-based websites to ensure information is appropriate and relevant to our Members, and will only link to non-UK based websites when no equivalent website exists in the UK.

Although we do our best to ensure sites that we link to are appropriate, Coeliac UK takes no responsibility for the content of external internet sites owned and operated by others. We accept no liability for any statements, information, products and services that are published on or are accessible through websites owned or operated by third parties.

Recipe Database

Our Recipe Database is compiled from recipes submitted by our Members and other companies we have worked with. The information is checked and every reasonable effort is made to ensure that the information is complete, correct and up to date at the time it is added. However, this cannot be guaranteed and Coeliac UK shall not be liable for any damages incurred as a result of its use.

Shop

You can return any items you’re not happy with within 14 days of receipt for a full refund of the cost of the product, provided it is returned in saleable condition. We reserve the right to refuse a refund if goods are not returned in a saleable condition or they are damaged. 

If your goods are faulty, you can return them within 30 days of receipt for a full refund of the cost of the product.

Proof of postage is not proof of receipt.

Venue Guide

The Venue Guide is compiled from recommendations made by Members on their chosen venues and accredited venues we have worked with. The information is checked and every reasonable effort is made to ensure that the information is complete, correct and up to date at the time it is added. However, this cannot be guaranteed and Coeliac UK shall not be liable for any damages incurred as a result of its use.

Modification of the web policies

Coeliac UK may modify the terms of this agreement on this site. By using the site you agree to periodically review this agreement to be aware of any such revisions. Should the revision be unacceptable to you, you agree to stop accessing this site. Your continued use of this website following such notification of any such revision(s) shall be deemed as acceptance of and agreement to abide by all such revisions.
