FAQ

My local CCG is making prescription decisions on a case by case basis. Will they be able to continue doing that now?

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are able to design and implement their own policies regarding service provision. While they should take note of the Government’s response they are able to guide prescribing practices using their own policies.

It recognises that all patients medically diagnosed with coeliac disease require a gluten free diet to manage their condition, and will make it much harder for individual CCGs to justify their decisions to continue prescribing on a case by case basis.

We will look through the Government’s consultation report and identify regions hardest hit by the withdrawal of prescriptions in order to persuade those CCGs to review and reverse their actions.

We will keep those members affected informed of our progress in persuading individual CCGs to fall in line with national regulations.
