Become a member of our Research Strategy Board

We are looking for individuals with suitable skills to become members of our Research Strategy Board (RSB).

The purpose of the RSB is to advise our Board of Trustees on best practice for research. Therefore, we are specifically, but not exclusively, looking to recruit people who understand the research environment with skills that can help us with our Research Strategy.

The RSB typically meets online twice every year, for two to three hours each session. The agenda and any relevant papers for pre-reading are shared in advance. Membership of the RSB is for a three year term, with the opportunity to renew for a further three years, by mutual agreement. After two, three year terms it’s mandatory to step down and for a further three years to lapse before being eligible to re-stand.

Before the pandemic, the RSB would meet face to face twice per annum. It’s hoped that in the near future the RSB may  return to face to face meetings or operate a hybrid model.

As a member of the RSB, you may be expected to help:

  • In the reviewing and selecting of research grants for funding
  • Advising or investigating necessary policies relating to our Research Strategy and research activities, such as intellectual property rights, data sharing and ethics
  • Advising on the best ways to conduct and support research
  • Advising how the charity may achieve its Research Strategy and other ideas the charity may have relating to research - how to go about achieving our aims and how to identify, manage and mitigate risks.

Below is a list of areas, we would very much value expertise in. However, we welcome applications from anyone with skills that may help us with our Research Strategy:

  • A scientific discipline, e.g. biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, pathology, etc.
  • Gastroenterology
  • Immunology
  • Clinical practice
  • Nutrition
  • Health data, patient registries or databases, data science
  • Intellectual property, patents, policies related to research
  • Statistics

Membership of the RSB is voluntary and is not remunerated, however, expenses to attend face to face, in person meetings are covered.
