Good news in Dudley, Surrey and East Kent - Fresh bread is back on prescrip

28 November 2012

A key point of concern for the NHS has been the issue of additional charges being added to the cost of gluten-free prescriptions for transport and administration. Coeliac UK are pleased that arrangements have been made with Juvela, Glutafin, Genius and Warburton’s to guarantee that additional costs are not added further down the supply chain.

In our discussions with NHS Trusts (and Clinical Commissioning Groups – CCGs - which are replacing them) regarding these changes, Coeliac UK has already had a number of positive responses:

We are pleased to hear that East Kent NHS has reviewed their policy on fresh bread. Fresh breads produced by Genius, Glutafin and Juvela are now available on prescription. These changes will affect those living in areas covered by Ashford, Canterbury & Coastal, South Kent Coast and Thanet CCGs. Find out which area these CCGs cover on the Eastern and Coastal Kent website at; www.easternandcoastalkent.nhs.uk/about-us/clinical-commissioning-groups/
Surrey NHS has also reviewed their position and will be prescribing Juvela, Glutafin and Genius fresh bread on prescription.
Dudley NHS has reviewed their policy and will now be prescribing Glutafin, Juvela, Genius and Warburton’s fresh bread. Their policy can be accessed on the following website; www.dudley.nhs.uk/Formulary/Index.aspx?id=24
We will keep everyone updated as we hear more.
