New research grants awarded

6 November 2012

We have issued a press release to the media announcing that Coeliac UK has teamed up with Core, a charity that funds research into a range of gut and digestive illnesses, to fund a new research project which will start in early 2013.

Dr Joe West of the University of Nottingham has been awarded £80,000 to investigate how common clinically diagnosed coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis is in the UK today. This work will update current estimates and build up our understanding of the condition. The study will also measure how common coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis is amongst family members and the rate of misdiagnosis with irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr Joe West was interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham on 1 November about this research. You can hear this interview at http://bbc.in/SRF1gk from 2 hours 14 minutes onwards.
