Behind the scenes at our online shop

Funds raised by our online shop enable us to continue supporting everyone to live well gluten free. Our Fundraising Coordinator, Max Walker talks about what it’s like to run the charity’s online shop, and how your purchases make a difference.

“With the sad cancellation of the majority of our events this year and the world closing down and moving online, our charity shop has taken on a new sense of importance. It’s helped us to engage with our gluten free community and has played a vital role in raising important funds so that the charity can continue its research activities, campaigns and other core work.

“We have seen this amazing engagement in the number of purchases our supporters have been making for distanced family and friends. Our range of recipe books have allowed those living gluten free to stay connected through shared recipes, and items such as our wristbands have enabled our supporters to showcase their solidarity and highlight their condition. It has brought a real smile to our team’s face to know we can play a small part in that experience.

“This year we have been able to build on this increased interest and, despite the new challenges 2020 has raised, such as our head office being shut or suppliers closing down, we have been fortunate enough to expand our offerings and introduce a range of new products – like our branded face masks and lunch bags.

“As we enter the festive season and most of us remain under lockdown, we are increasingly aware of the role our shop plays in keeping our community connected. This year’s Christmas campaign has tried to focus on how something as simple as a Christmas card or a festive gift can make a huge difference in what for many feels like a very isolated world right now.

“Although this Christmas feels very different to previous ones, our team is thoroughly looking forward it. Just last week we were able to confirm our Ambassador Jane Devonshire’s brand new book, Vegetarian, Hassle Free, Gluten Free  is ready to pre-order, and we are one of the only sellers who can deliver in time for Christmas (if you order before 17 December)!

“Our community has been incredibly understanding about the strain this year has put on tasks such as fulfilling orders in due time and I would love to take the chance to thank them for their patience. Unlike large online retailers, our shop team is rather small in stature, but the record demand for our products speaks volumes about the incredible support we have had from our community.

“2020 has been a record year for our little shop and I for one am incredibly excited to see what new products we will introduce next year.”

For every Christmas product you purchase, at least 15% of the cost will go to Coeliac UK, helping us continue to be there for you in 2021.
