Crabbie's Beer Can Chicken

Ingredients

  • 2kg whole chicken
  • 1 x 440ml can of Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer
  • 100ml BBQ sauce*
  • 1 chilli
  • 1 shallot
For the rub:
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp five spice
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme

Method

  1. Light BBQ or preheat oven to 200°C/392°F/Gas Mark 6. Mix the dry spices and thyme together, add lemon juice. Rub mixture on the chicken
  2. Pour half the Crabbie’s into a glass and set aside to drink or save for later, place chicken on top of the can standing up and put onto baking tray
  3. Put on the BBQ for two hours or in the oven for 100 minutes
  4. Chop the chilli and shallot mix with BBQ sauce, put the glaze on the chicken and cook for about another 15 minutes until the glaze is sticky
  5. Serve with your favourite BBQ accompaniments.
