Teriyaki Beef Skewers

Ingredients

  • 450g (16oz) lean beef rump steaks (or use sirloin steaks)
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2cm root ginger, peeled and grated
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) honey
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) soy sauce*
  • 1 red chilli, seeded and chopped
  • 5ml (1 tsp) sesame seeds

Method

  1. Mix together garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce, chilli and sesame seeds
  2. Add to beef and mix well to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 2-3 hours to let the flavours infuse
  3. Thread the cubes onto skewers and barbecue according to taste
To finish
  1. Mix together 2 cloves garlic, crushed, 2cm root ginger, peeled and grated, 30ml (2tbsp) honey, 30ml (2tbsp) soy sauce, 1 red chilli, seeded and chopped, and 5ml (1tsp) sesame seeds
  2. Brush or drizzle over kebabs during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking time. Alternatively serve as a dipping sauce for steaks or kebab
Relish
  1. Mix together 2 spring onions, sliced, 7.5cm (3") cucumber cut into strips, 1 red chilli sliced,15ml (1tbsp) soy sauce, 15ml (1tbsp) sesame oil and 5ml (1tsp) sesame seeds to make an oriental salsa
  2. Serve on or alongside the kebabs, with vegetable salad
