COELIAC UK, WOLVERHAMPTON SUPPORT GROUP
NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2023

Dear member/supporter

I have to give you all some very sad news. This month, three of the stalwarts of our Group, without whom I doubt whether we would still be going, passed away. We will spend some time during our September meeting remembering them, and our former organsier Alan Tunstall will lead the tributes to Janet Foster, Jeanette Babb & Iain Young.

It was Janet who first signed me up to Coeliac UK after I was diagnosed in 2010, at a Food Festival at the Molineux. She was a formidable character, absolutely commited to the cause of us coeliacs, and was a group organiser for several years. Last time we met, as the last meeting, she knew she did not have long to live, but was positive and quite cheerful about enjoying her final days.
Jeanette did so much work for us as a group, especially in fundraising and organising, selling cards, doing the food at the skittles evening, she was one of our unsung heroes. Our sympathies go to Colin.
Iain Young was a long established supporter, who was, for many years our Auditor, so we send our love to Linda.

27th September Meeting 7pm, Friends Meeting House.

So, we will start with a minutes silence for our recently departed colleagues, led by Alan Tunstall.
As food is our rasion d'etre, this evening we have a BAKE OFF evening, preseneted by TRUPTI & ANYA MAHAY. I don't know how many of you have had the pleasure of trying Anya's cakes? I have, and I can say that the word "Cakes" doesn't do justice to the creations which she conjures up. They look so good, it seams a shame to cut them up and eat them.... or maybe not.
So, Anya and Trupti will be letting us in on the secrets of making professional style cakes, a la Bake Off. Mary Berry eat your heart out!

The presentation will take up most of the evening but there will be time to discuss forthcoming events, including the November 'Tried and Tested' evening, and the Christmas meal.

Also, we shall be selling raffle tickets, as ever the draw being made around 8:30pm.
Actually, we always welcome prizes for the raffle; is there anything you could donate?

We had planned to be here as usual, on the 2nd Wednesday of Spetember, but the Friends had a funeral taking place at the venue, so we had to rearrange.

Dates, then for your diary:
Nov 8th - Comittee meeting.
Nov 15th - Tried and Tested meeting, Friends Meeting House 7pm. Bring along your favourtite recipe creations for judging.
December 15th - Christmas Meal Venue ? Ill tell you at the meeting !

Good Luck to you all
Ian
